I agree Manuel that land, sea and air attacks on Venezuela may very well be Trump's next distraction to divert the American people's growing disgust of him as his poll numbers plummet, as Republican politicians are starting to develope a spine to oppose his extremist measures to grab more power, as he turns his back on Ukraine to hand the country over to Putin, as he has gotten caught committing war crimes by brazenly murdering drug dealers on the high seas, as he has threatened to deprive the middle and lower classes of health benefits while lowering taxes for billionaires, and especially now that he has been humiliated into signing off on a law passed by both Houses of Congress requiring the DOJ to disclose thousands and thousands of documents pertaining to Trump's good old buddy Jeffrey .Epstein.
The idea of taking the country to war to distract the public from Trump's heinous acts and public humiliations was Trump's brainstorm right after his public humiliation on June 14 when the draft dodger-in-chief got the military parade he deserved. June 14, 2025 was billed as the military parade to end all parades, which would lead to the glorification of Donald Trump on his 79th birthday as the Master of the Universe, which would even transcend his own claim that he "rules the country and the world". As we all know, the line of straggly soldiers slovenly marching out of step with a proud display of indifference was a huge fiasco, and a total humiliation to Trump.
So was it then a mere coincidence that at that very moment, he just happened to do a quick turn-around, reject the assessment of his own intelligence organizations and tell Iran and the world that unless Iran agrees to "unconditional surrender", the U.S. would join in Israel's attack on Iran, which is exactly what Trump ordered?
Did it work? You bet it did. It took the entire world's attention off the egg on Trump's face and onto the question of whether he was leading us into a nuclear war.
Since then, a long list of domestic political setbacks for Trump and his menagerie of political clowns and servile politicians became increasingly interspersed with threats of invading Venezuela, Mexico, and Nigeria and also of doggedly blowing up and murdering 83 people in boats on the high seas off Latin and South America who were suspected of being drug runners, whom Trump has since redefined as "narco-terrorists" to attempt to justify killing them in cold blood right on the spot.
So I believe that you are right Manuel in surmising that conducting land, sea and air attacks on Venezuela might just be Trump's next distraction ploy to take the public's mind off of Donald Trump being his loathsome self.
It is a part of the dictator’s playbook. I shake my head in disgust. Where are the Republicans? He must be removed, expunged, put away in jail, or impeached. He is clearly trying to going to drag all of us into hell with him.
An international mugging is a good way to put it and sounds exactly right to me. Bully and brute behavior to seize control of Venezuela's resources no doubt. A message sent to Mexico that they'll do the same as well perhaps? A month in Venezuela was my first international trip right before Hugo Chavez was elected back in ninety-eight. They have suffered much in recent years.
I agree, B. The citizens of this country have allowed US armed forces to be placed at the service of business interests that fund politicians since at least 1776. It is incompatible with compassion and democratic governance.
"Bully Ratio" American GOP government (Trump and his cabinet, stacked SCOTUS, and ineffective congress) over US Citizens??? 100 to 1. So overwhelming to feel impotent until the next "potential" "possible" election .... back to finding Joy, celebrating the Lights, and appreciating our family of friends and loved ones : )
So sadly true! As his mental stability (if there ever was any) disappears, his actions become more and more untenable and our other elected officials still don't seem to want to confront the nightmare. I see the local effect every day in our rural (largely poor) community and am appalled but struggling to find a meaningful way to make a counter impact
Dawn, some things have to be lived through, endured, before those who can act do so. We will live through this period and through the inevitable coming changes in '26 and beyond re-adjust the vessel's course. Have a nice weekend.
One of may distractions currently being used to keep the public guessing on what's next and trying to understand the basis for why various actions are being taken. Goes right up there with Trump winning the first ever FIFA Peace Prize and hosting the Kennedy Center awards, etc.

Thanks for your thoughtful response. Have a great weekend.
Thanks Manuel. You too!

Thanks, John. If his ego goes to hell, will there be room for anyone else?
Ha!

Yes, and like you say, totally incompatible with compassion and true democracy.
Tom Cotton ... really?!? What a nightmare.

We shall overcome, Karen. Jesse Jackson urges us to keep hope alive.

Thanks for reminding me that this too shall pass.

I think the FIFA award will deeply harm soccer. But, is FIFA itself not tainted by opprobrium? Have a great weekend, Scott.
I totally agree with you, Ann. Have a great weekend.
