JOYFUL PIECE #95
What kind of resurrection do we seek?
In theological terms, resurrection is the concept of coming back to life after death. Many people celebrated Resurrection Sunday, two days ago.
In these times, what do we consider resurrection?
In moral terms we would like to vibrantly resurrect Jesus’ teachings of love, compassion, justice, mercy, peace, joy, generosity, patience, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, resilience.
Others may wish to resurrect previous times. Such times may include Jim Crow days; the time of the Robber Barons in the late 19th century; slavery; the oppression of women; intolerance for LGBTQ people; white supremacy reaching back to the coming of the Europeans to Africa and the New World that resulted in oppression of Africans, First Americans, indentured servants and minorities. How will this kind of resurrection affect our society?
We should joyfully resurrect the love for God and neighbor. That is the way of peace that Jesus lived and for which he gave his life.
Today Earth Day was celebrated. Should we not recommit to its resurrection, today and every day?
Joyfully reject greed, entitlement, indifference, groupthink, bigotry, prejudice, mass hysteria, addiction, violence, isolation, suspicion, enslavement of others.
Joyfully protect the hungry, the weak, the infirm, the persecuted, the dispossessed, the marginalized, our planet— protect them from fascists and oligarchs.

Amen.

Where are the people who will show up, stand up, and rise for the vulnerable? Where are the people showing a rare kind of kindness, who are intentionally about outreach in a time of outrage? Where are the people who will literally and intentionally do one thing this week to be a kind of roof to the vulnerable? Please stand up and be counted. Manuel, you're one of those people. Thank you for sharing!
