You ask why? Because they can, and that’s what fearful, chauvinistic, phony-holy supremacist bullies love to do--exert more and more power over others. Vote them out--including the Texas Supreme Court “Justices”-- they are elected, they do not have life tenure.

I share your sentiment, Sally. All those I cite have indeed been voted in by fellow citizens who might be blind to the gut feelings that drive their votes or perhaps refuse to see as they listen to the muddled drivel of the talking heads to whom they listen.

Must thank you as a daughter, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister of women. Your voice is one of reason and humanity in this issue.

Thank you Patris for your comment and restack.

You bring up so many good points and questions. I'm afraid it really comes down to a critical mass of men in states like Texas believe it's their right to oppress and control women. I hesitate to say this, but I believe there is also a critical mass of women who are OK with being dominated by badass men who will protect them. That mentality surely goes way back and has nothing to do with sanctity of life. Oh - let me count the ways.

Thank you for being a voice of reason while so many Ststes, are choosing to interfere in matters that you so eloquently describe, are really none of their business. You may remember James Bond Stockdale who "infamously" run for Vice President of the USA on Ross Perot's ticket in 1992. On a VP debate he was asked hús opinion. on abortion. Here is his famous answer:

He was the most misunderstood candidate for anything, ever. A brilliant mind and a hero.

I thank you again.

I so agree that it doesn't matter that I or anyone else loathes the idea of abortion. It is such an extremely complicated decision to make that the last thing we want is men who have no skin in the game making the decision for women who will carry the ramifications of that decision with them for the rest of their lives.

Manuel, TY for lifting up such important issues with your writing. You mention the "religious" right and "moralistic" underpinnings of Texas' anti-abortion interference with a woman's health care. I would like to suggest that by labeling this invasion/power grab as "religious" simply whitewashes and distracts from flagrant abuse of power - not that it's shocking to either of us that religion is often used as a weapon. Similarly, the guise that this is moralistic drips with irony sitting along with their death penalty and other initiatives driven by the Texas legislature. The extreme right and their false narratives, their whitewashing of the truth, their denial of their backroom mysogyny / white nationalism posited as "religious" and "moral" must be called by their true names. Power and his brother, Control.

With much appreciation for getting a chance to read your top-of-mind each week!

Thanks for sharing with such clarity, Karen. I just shared with a friend that I was reading on Thomas Merton last night— how humans follow Gog and Magog (power and money). Those twins are involved in this, it bears their bloody marks.

There's so much pain here ... we know that families facing unexpected birth outcomes often (eventually) divorce at a rate of ~80%. Obviously we're still missing the mark on helping these couples grieve together and through the experience. Add the trauma that Kay Cox and her husband have faced - and the legislature's position of being "for the family" is not only absurd but also profoundly misinformed! Rant over : )

You pose great questions. It would be interesting to hear each State representative's answer on each of them. I am confident I would be underwhelmed by their responses.

Thanks Scott. I was reading on Thomas Merton last night. He talks of how humans follow Gog and Magog (power and money). Those twins are involved in this.

Thanks Veronica, for taking the time to comment. I liked the Stockdale clip, thanks. We must persist in voicing our opinions against the current insanity. Peace to you.

No rant...just truth from you, Karen.
