JOYFUL PIECE #50
Photograpy
Ever since I can remember I have been drawn to photography. I remember trying to take interesting photos with a Kodak Brownie Chiquita camera and later with an instamatic.
Over time my resources gave me a chance to acquire better equipment and as I now reach the downsizing phase of my life there are over a dozen cameras on my shelves. From Super 8 to instamatics, from SLRs to TLRs, from film to digital cameras. Even an old big frame Polaroid. And then, there are my iPhones. My professional life did not center on photography, and I focused on what I thought I had to do to provide for my family. However, my fascination with photography has never waned. I love to take photos, framing and proportioning the scenes, playing with lighting, even with shutter speeds for effect.
So, when I was contemplating a topic for my Tuesday evening Joyful Piece, I was fortunate to run across this article on NPR.
Here is a wonderful example of how something that you love to do can bring joy to you and others. The photographer featured in this article transformed a situation full of fear and sorrow to one of joy and connectivity. And at the same time documented an important chapter in the lives of humans during stressful months. In addition, this article showed me how photography allowed that photographer to dialogue with herself and others to create a sense of community during a time of reduced social interactions.
Be joyful! Grab your camera and have a blast!

An uplifting article. New and old photos can give so much joy. Thank you for sharing.
On a practical-side, pretending to be a action photographer on the sidelines - iPhone in hand - transforms a 4 yo’s gymnastics showcase from two hours of bleacher wigglies into great joy when you capture a special moment !!! Life saving 🤣
