Cheers to Rachel Carson and to the call to all to defend and care for this precious planet and an end to tyranny and obscene and senseless destruction.
I've just come in from a walk with my dog around the neighbourhood which has had two thunder showers this morning and is now sunny and warm and alive with birdsong - cardinals and robins and swifts and sparrows and so many I can't name. Spring mornings are beautifully noisy. And i always think of Rachel Carson as i listen.
From Silent Spring: "... There was a strange stillness. The birds, for example - where had they gone? Many people spoke of them, puzzled and disturbed. The feeding stations in the backyards were deserted. The few birds seen anywhere were moribund; they trembled violently and could not fly. It was a spring without voices. On the morning that had once throbbed with the dawn chorus of robins, catbirds, doves, jays, wrens, and scores of other bird voices there was no sound: only silence lay over the fields and woods and marsh."
A truly beautiful person, an 'American Giant'. I remember as a child DTT was sprayed over private lands like the one we owned and we could go over 100 acres of land and not hear a songbird. Even today, the birds have not returned. So eerie and sad!

One of my personal heroes. Truly a brave, caring human. The world became a bit smaller when she died.
Your work mirrors hers, Dawn. 🙏🏻
an honor I’m not sure I deserve, but each of us does what we can.
Yes, thank you to a woman who understood and a woman who cared.
Thank you, Manuel for honoring her.
Thanks for commenting, Donna.

We live, we do, we learn, and undoing our wrong doings is what we can now do. Thank you, Yvonne.
Amen!
