AN AMERICAN GIANT
A blessing to and from Creation
Rachel Carson, (May 27, 1907 – April 14, 1964)author of Silent Spring. Official photo as FWS employee. c. 1940.
Today marks the passing of Rachel Carson, who warned us sixty-four years ago about where our assault on our world was leading.
Today, the oligarchs embrace the POTUS as they strive to gobble up more and more public lands for extraction purposes and in that process pollute our air, our land, our waters.
Today, the oligarchs back a POTUS who is taking orders from Netanyahu and devastating the Middle East landscape.
The world that is being destroyed actively and through our indifference will soon cease to support us if we do not change our ways.
The world includes all creatures on the planet, including the destroyers themselves, who proceed ignorantly, indifferent to the damage that they are wreaking.
May we pause on this day to recognize the sacred work that Rachel Carson undertook to understand and protect this Earth.
Thank you, Dr. Carson

Cheers to Rachel Carson and to the call to all to defend and care for this precious planet and an end to tyranny and obscene and senseless destruction.
I've just come in from a walk with my dog around the neighbourhood which has had two thunder showers this morning and is now sunny and warm and alive with birdsong - cardinals and robins and swifts and sparrows and so many I can't name. Spring mornings are beautifully noisy. And i always think of Rachel Carson as i listen.
From Silent Spring: "... There was a strange stillness. The birds, for example - where had they gone? Many people spoke of them, puzzled and disturbed. The feeding stations in the backyards were deserted. The few birds seen anywhere were moribund; they trembled violently and could not fly. It was a spring without voices. On the morning that had once throbbed with the dawn chorus of robins, catbirds, doves, jays, wrens, and scores of other bird voices there was no sound: only silence lay over the fields and woods and marsh."
