The Canadian news has been covering the heat deaths in the US this week and i learned this evening of the death of Gabriel Infante (https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-2/clip/15999024 ). It sounds like a story of work gangs from the early 20th Century. While we're no angels here in Canada (with our own struggles around worker safety and public health), it staggers me to try and understand the callousness of state governments and employers who care so little for their citizens. The stories out of Texas (and Florida) sound utterly dystopian. You ask "Why?" Well, for sure the answer is complex. But some of the answer is simple: given the urgency that is needed to address the climate crisis in which we are immersed, these behaviours are deeply psychotic and, though driven by fear and ignorance and an irrational belief in capitalist economics, both cruel and self-destructive.

Solid article. Looks like Texas government has forgotten "Nothing is worth getting hurt for"
