Over the years, America has navigated a precarious moral trajectory between domination of others and collaboration for justice and peace.
Under the influence of a demagogue propped up by oligarchs, too many Americans last November voted in an administration that they already regret.
The magnitude of the control that this autocratic regime is trying to impose on us was never anticipated by those who voted-in this self-inflicted and dangerous catastrophe. It is ideological, theological, socially oppressive and will impoverish most Americans.
We are now in straights like the situation Americans faced during the insurrection by the Confederates that led to the Civil War. It is ironic that the Confederate flag has been so prominent in the MAGA ranks. Abraham Lincoln led the nation through that crisis at great cost in blood and treasure.
Over the early days of July 1863, the fate of freedom was in the balance during the Battle of Gettysburg. The freedom-loving Northern States prevailed. Abraham Lincoln had this to say in his Gettysburg Address:
Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
The current POTUS and his supporters deny that proposition.
Persevering, as Lincoln did through numerous setbacks, this nation can repudiate the betrayers who now try to implement fascism in America. That is our mission in this darkness. Hope, resilience, and determination will help us unload the yoke the fascists seek to impose on democracy.
Remember these words:
With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation's wounds, to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan, to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations.

PROMOTE: Love. Compassion. Justice. Mercy. Peace. Joy. Generosity. Patience. Goodness. Faithfulness. Gentleness. Self-control. Resilience.
SHUN: Greed. Entitlement. Indifference. Groupthink. Mass hysteria. Addiction. Violence. Isolation. Suspicion. Enslavement.
Courage will light the way. Resist daily as you are able— dark is the alternative.

Had brunch with a dear friend this morning - her family escaped Cuba in 1966 ... she gently warns, "The people of our country don't see authoritarianism - they just don't believe it." People who fled ... we do.
I can and will promote all those values. That's all I can do - and show up for any protest, any intervention that I can be a part of. We now have the first concentration camp. At least there is an awareness and people are calling it what it is.
