Beautifully said, Manuel. This was decades in the making. I'm in a constant battle with my husband about "both sides" and complete unfounded degenerate "mistrust" in the system started after Nixon resigned and cemented by the Southern Baptist Convention, Reagan, and all the rest. It's now the default of many.
Thanks for commenting and restacking my post, Lorraine. "Both sides"... in this complex world a binary (two sides, right/wrong, dichotomous approach) may fall short. There are 8 billion people, each occupying a unique space and context. How do we bring everyone's contribution to the conversation?
I remain committed to strengthening individual connections and having small conversations, along with whatever bigger actions I can support. I believe that our strength in times of turmoil lies in remaining open, kind, and compassionate to the individuals we encounter. This seems, to me, to be a good antidote to the screaming media that would have me mistrusting every group, or trying to subsume me in wholesale xenophobia.
I also remain committed to using my voice to call out bad behavior.

Thank you for your comment, Leanna. I agree.
Thank you for your eloquent essay.
Each one of us is the Republic.
We shall overcome.
Thank you for your kind words, Dr. Hall.
Great message of hope this Thanksgiving Day Weekend,
Thanks for reading it, Scott.
"Why?" Could it be fear of the other? Thanks for commenting, David.
