JOYFUL PIECE #99
Fertilizer and manure stink
War, genocide, putrid corruption in the government of the United States of America. Over half of the voters observe that the U S government is controlled by the Republican Party MAGA wing and the oligarchs in the POTUS inner circle.
Where is Ronald Reagan’s “shining city upon a hill” with George H. W. Bush’ “1000 points of light”?
Where is American exceptionalism these days? Is America exceptionally prosperous? Exceptionally virtuous? Or is America as represented by an ill-chosen exceptionally corrupt government?
The above paragraphs paint a very dark picture. Their content can be confirmed by following the news. And after carefully picking out the commentary, misinformation, propaganda and outright lies, the news leaves little cause to celebrate America.
But consider the fetid smell of raw fertilizer. This morning my wife was noting how unpleasant the fertilizer smelled as she spread it around the garden. Nature is telling us to stay away from it by way of our noses, yet its nurturing qualities allow for lush vegetation that reaches our tables as food and our flowerpots as beautiful flowers.
We can get obsessed with the unpalatable. Or we can be patient and understand that all things must and will pass. With resilience, and persevering resistance we will supplant the current rottenness with better times.
It is the tears of the earth that keep her smiles in bloom.
—Rabindranath Tagore
Be joyful!

It’s true we are a blip in Time. It passes and takes us with it. One day every single human here right now will be a memory (a good one if they’re lucky) or simply a name and a date.
Yet while I know this there are the generations to come, the children of our children’s children.
Who can ignore the determination of those who are causing the stench we are smelling? And who’s to say if flowers will emerge or some tech child’s idea of a barren future?
Thank you Manuel. This is so scary now, I'm searching for any ray of hope. This helps.
