The season is for giving; and Mother Nature is setting the example for us!
How do we extricate ourselves from the fossil fuel swamp? For a long time, scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs have been dreaming of turning to hydrogen as a clean source of fuel. Burning hydrogen produces water, YES! It links up with the oxygen in the atmosphere.
Currently hydrogen must be separated from a compound, such as water. This takes up significant amounts of energy. Up to now, the energy source for that process is the burning of fossil fuels, and that hydrogen has been called gray hydrogen. If green energy sources are used, such as solar, hydroelectric, or wind, it is called green hydrogen. But I want to talk about pure hydrogen, naturally and continuously generated in nature.
What if we had a vast reservoir of white hydrogen? This would be hydrogen that does not require energy for its basic production— just for extraction and distribution. France has announced such a deposit that could contain up to 260 million metric tons of hydrogen deep in the soil of Lorraine, a half mile below the surface.
These vast deposits of white hydrogen do not occur solely in France, but throughout the world. Hydrogen is naturally produced in nature when heated water comes in contact with rocks rich in iron, the chief constituents of the Earth’s core. These hydrogen reservoirs have the potential to provide clean energy for centuries. In fact, one of our brainiest fellow citizens, billionaire Bill Gates, is already supporting development of a hydrogen reservoir in Colorado. Investors are moving to fund this emerging industry to the tune of billions of dollars. If all works out well, we may see the removal of up to half of the emissions responsible for global warming.
The investors, the entrepreneurs, the speculators, the fossil fuel lobby, all of those “friends of the Earth” may argue about what a competitive price for this hydrogen must be. But the big picture is that we are facing major global catastrophes due to global warming because of the use of fossil fuels for energy. How much are you willing to pay to live, to have your legacy continue?
In this, the traditional season of joy, Mother Earth comes through for us. Hallelujah!

A very intriguing concept, and it's exciting to see brilliant, well-funded entrepreneurs supporting the projects. If there's big money in it, and it happens to be green, it will hopefully fly.
