Nochebuena
It is Christmas Eve. In countries with a Spanish influence, this evening is “Nochebuena”— the good night. It is a very special time, and families gather for a celebratory evening meal. Some meals are quite a production, and sometimes socially eclipse Christmas Day and its message.
We pin our hopes on Christmas as a renewal of love and kindness in humanity.
As I gaze on the three figures of Jesus, Mary and Joseph in my Nativity set, the utter simplicity of the scene is significant.
May we have the humility to contemplate the possibility of a world of love, justice, peace, free of hubris and greed, and make the commitment to help bring it about.
