I just love this Manuel.

It's so challenging to grow produce here in SoCal, especially being fairly remote.

But after years of failed attempts, I immensely enjoy certain perennials. The biggest surprise this year was two kinds of kale that have thrived and survived even predators, providing salads for months. And of course my beloved lemons that I eat daily. All varieties of peppers, herbs, and tomatillos and artichokes too. It's so special when we can at least get some of these vital nutrients from our own garden. Thank you!

For 25 years we lived in Wyoming and I had the pleasure of working in a men’s minimum security correctional facility where the inmates trained wild horses. In their free time, the men tended individual garden plots which were meticulously cared for and their produce offered to the kitchen. The entire facility was an act of therapy. Very few inmates ever returned to prison. Sharing is caring.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the inmates, Charlene. I believe in restorative Justice, yet I have not experienced it firsthand as you have. 🙏🏻

I love the idea of community gardens. As an apartment-dweller, I don't get much chance to dig in the soil and garden. It is a treat when I get to do that.

As a person living car-free, I also get to appreciate the flower beds and gardens along the sidewalks. I frequently take photos of the flowers and urban wildlife, and share them with my friends and colleagues here, as well as those in Ukraine and elsewhere.

In about one month, I will head back to volunteer in Ukraine, providing trauma support. On more than a few occasions, I have gotten to connect with people through a shared love of natural beauty. Sharing photos may not be as nourishing as digging in the dirt, but nature can still provide some respite from life's challenges.

Thanks for restacking my post, Leanna. I wish you a safe and productive trip to Ukraine. May peace reign there soon. Be safe on your travels and thanks for all that you do. 🙏🏻
