The joyful harbinger of better times ahead...
The above photo dates back a decade when a pair of hummingbirds decided to nest on the oak tree just outside our balcony. They are very difficult to photograph in mid-flight.
As I was writing a post last week, a wonderful, joyful event visited me. I gazed out the window and came face to face, eye to eye, with a hummingbird. Those tiny angels who like to come in spring always make me smile. I sat still without flinching a muscle as the feathered angel hung midair and looked into my office. After about 30 seconds the angel deftly drifted back and a second feathered friend appeared and took up the post for about a half minute.
That is for me a joy-filled experience. After this second visitor drifted off, I resumed writing my post, and as I finished it, another feathered visitor took up the watch. Joy unlimited, for sure.
Each spring these little wonders delight us. We try to keep our yard as natural as possible, so they come to feed on the wildflowers that sprout at this time of the year. I should add that we do not have a “yard”— we have a natural habitat that we keep wild for the myriad critters that visit it: from pawed, to winged, to limbless, mammals, birds, reptiles, insects of all sorts, predators and prey. I suppose that it is our own little zoo.
I told my wife about our latest visitors just as she finished reading about hummingbirds. From her findings I can share the following from among the many positive things attributed to hummingbird sightings:
Hummingbirds are messengers of love and joy. They are reminders to stop worrying, slow down, and enjoy the small things in life. A hummingbird appearing at your window is a positive omen that symbolizes joy, healing and the presence of loved ones who have passed. Joy, healing, and loved ones now gone are three ideas that resonate given recent events in my life.
The sighting at my window is a good omen indicating that a difficult period is ending. I certainly will accept that communication at this time in our lives!
Keep that in your mind…we will get through this chaotic POTUS period of graft, corruption, war, cruelty, and the Epstein scandal.

Hummingbird sightings are rare at my house and I always feel blessed when one hovers by. I am frequently visited by a pair of mourning doves that land on my windowsill and look in at me.They are symbols of peace, hope, and love - maybe a visit from a deceased loved one. They can be a reminder of divine protection and to release emotional burdens. In any case, I am honored to offer them a home to mate and nest in my yard.
