JOYFUL PIECE #153
Behold the roots— looks can be deceiving
Trees are beautiful beings. Oaks, and in particular old oaks, exude strength, resilience. Their fresh, new foliage exemplify vitality and evoke eternity. The lovely oak in the photo has been on this earth at least as long as I have. In fact, our arborists date them at over a century old. We have this oak and its sisters/brothers professionally maintained and the upkeep is worthwhile. Trees are a source of joy for us
In another area we have other trees. One of them, tall and sturdy, having no obvious signs of disease, aside a dry limb here and there, looked healthy. Alas, a thunderstorm came through and the tree is down— the trunk had dry rot at its base.
How do we keep a democracy, a country, from succumbing to dry rot at its roots?
How do we keep from being deceived by exterior false signs of health?
How effective have we been in monitoring, inspecting, maintaining the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of our government?
How will we withstand the thunderstorms ahead?
Be joyful. Joy multiplies our strength.
Be joyful— yet awake, alert to the common flaws in our political system.
Resist daily. Keep your valued democracy in good health with continuous vigilance and engagement in the public processes that protect it. Keep Epstein scandals at bay.

Dry root rot kills trees…
can country’s, world’s base be healed?
Storms here. More coming.

Find, fix leaks, bring air,
excavate, treat fungus, fill.
Life, worth try saving.
Humans can benefit from symbiotic relationships that nurture compassion instead of blame. My oak tree is a living example of how a squirrel planted an acorn that sprouted into a tree I allowed to grow in the perfect spot in front of my house. Another one was planted in front of my neighbor's house that would have made a beautiful shade giving twin. The neighbor allowed an invasive vine to kill it.
The oak tree represents strength, endurance, and wisdom. Its deep roots and towering canopy serve as a universal symbol of grounding, resilience through adversity. Let us hug, nurture and care for the metaphorical oaks we encounter in human kind.
