JOYFUL PIECE #123
The Happiness-Joy Question
The widespread progressive wins at last Tuesday elections has made a lot of people’s chagrin turn to happy dispositions. That is a wonderful development. Since last November we have seen the dark tide of fascism creep across America, seemingly unstoppable. Now we once again see the power of the electorate at work when people turn out to vote for their own interests instead of voting for party memes and slogans.
I propose that we enjoy this afterglow after so many adverse news.
We should take this opportunity of hopeful and cheerful disposition, to reflect, and to distinguish between the momentary, fleeting, mood swings characteristic of happiness and sadness, and the phenomena of joy and its unsavory nemesis, despair.
Joy was implanted in us at our soul’s birth. It is real and innate and deeply rooted in us. Joy can only be obscured, temporarily, by despair, if we lose hope.
Hope facilitates the uncovering of my perennially simmering inner joy and correctly places a lid on the trash can of despair.
Be alive, bring forth your joy, resist tyranny joyfully everyday!

Agree. Never give up hope.
Joy is resistance
to what “should be otherwise.”
Hope, faith fill the tank.
