I lost him years ago, but it feels as if it just occurred. The scent of his cologne lingers in my memory, along with the pickup baseball games, fishing trips, shared music, time spent working together on home projects and at his workstation.
Memories are like embers— ready to glow into a flame of emotions as an event touches them like a kindling breath.
On the anniversary of his passing his portrait is surrounded by flowers and serenaded by the music of Stan Getz, Joao Gilberto, Beethoven and others we enjoyed as I grew up.
Memories bring the pain of loss as well as joy from sweet images reborn into the reality of our mundane existence.
Rejoice through memories of your loved ones as you bask in their warm glow.

After my mother passed, I put a few of her favorite scarves in an airtight bag. Later I opened it and cried happily when her smell, perfume, and essence remained to soothe my grief. I still have them.
Same for me. The scent is Old Spice. The music is Bill Evans, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby.
