Time marches on. In only a few weeks we will choose our next president. And we will also choose a variety of public officials.
Will we have the clarity to choose public servants or self-serving demagogues?
Will we support the continued tax evasion of the multimillionaires? Or will we tax the hyper wealthy and invest in activities beneficial to our society?
Will we stagnate economic growth by opposing immigration?
Will we choose a president that protects the citizenry or one who ignored reality and caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of citizens by lying about the COVID pandemic during his term in office?
Will we choose a president that will institute religious police controlling private decisions of women and men over their bodies and the health of their families?
Will we choose a president and government that protects free speech? Or will book bans be the order of the day?
Will we choose a government that promotes a gun culture or a compassionate culture that protects its students, children and the frail?
Will we turn our democracy into a dictatorship by the convicted felon former POTUS who attempted a coupe on January 6, 2021?
Will the nation be led by an immoral rapist?
Will our military be led by someone that berates them as suckers and losers for sacrificing for our country?
Will our leader be one who makes fun of the disabled?
Will we trust a leader that hid secret government documents in his mansion and refused to return them?
Will we choose an avowed dictator bent on revenge on his political opponents and avoiding prison for his own crimes?
We will be acting against our own self-interest if we return to power the convicted felon former POTUS and his acolytes.
Our common fates will be sealed on November 5, 2024. We must not return to power the convicted felon former POTUS. It is time to dedicate our available resources to building a bright future and not a resplendent despot.
And what's really hard is that it feels as if there is not much an individual can do to impact the outcome of the election. Yes, I can and will vote but so will other people who revere the criminal/rapist candidate. It's that damn electoral college that really angers me. It's a hugely flawed system yet it can't be changed b/c those who unjustly benefit from it won't allow it to be changed.
TBH? Sometimes I thank the universe that my days are numbered.
Solid questions. People need to vote. Having been fortunate to travel around the world to over 100 countries, I am always saddened to see the low percentage of people who vote in the US compared to other countries. It would bring me great JOY to see 75% of eligible voters vote in 38 dats. Their votes decide the future of the country.
