I pledge allegiance to our Constitution, not a person.

For years, as an early childhood educator, I taught the Pledge, word for word, to many students. I taught them that it was a promise to our country, a republic, to be a good citizen, to uphold the principles of our laws and constitution, and be a responsible, caring, human being. I hope that at least some of them took it to heart, remember it, and uphold the pledge.

Very important questions and observations. I cannot pledge allegiance to this Sad State of the Union. I pray one day that will change.

Thanks for commenting, B. It is as if the Ship of State ( SOS?) has been having plumbing issues for years and all the toilets are now overflowing with the accumulated filth…

I pledge allegiance to our Republic.

And not to anyone out to destroy it.

You have the right attitude, Dr. Hall. Thanks for commenting.

"I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the civic responsibilities expected of every American.”

I'll pledge allegiance to the flag that is even now flying outside my front door when it once again represents a government that I can respect.

Thank you, Dave, faithful patriot.
