I could, but I will not speculate on where this cruel streak resides in Abbott’s mind. It is clear though that when you pair that kind of need for cruelty with having the power to do so, that you end up with a very bad result. Those around Abbott, who are cowards to challenge his decisions also are culpable. That Abbott is aware of what the consequences would be from the Biden administration also indicates that there is no delusion or cognitive impairment, but that he is aware of what he’s doing.A total POS...

Thanks for your comment, Janan. I wonder what baggage is in their soul and how nasty and festering it may be. I agree that Abbott's consideration of possible murder charges is indicative of premeditation. Have a nice weekend.

"What kind of heart emits those words? I just checked, and the motto of the State of Texas is still 'Friendship'." Painful question and juxtaposition. May it get better, not worse.

The tension of paradox. Have a peaceful weekend.

I think Abbott should be indicted for premeditated murder. He said the loud part out loud. He would do everything to kill them but shooting.

"He said that shooting people at the border who illegally cross to the U S is not appropriate because the Biden administration would charge Texas officials with murder."

Ten years ago we would have probably seen legal actions taken but in 2024 if you don't have videos from every angle of the entire crime, you'll never get a conviction. Actually even with that on Jan 6th, three years later, it still hasn't even gone to trial. So sick.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

I don't have your doomsday attitude. Even 10 years ago it would take a long time to get through our legal system. It just feels longer now because it's so stressful and important that these criminals have completely infiltrated our entire government. But it's happening.

Two steps forward, one step back - we'll see.

That's still forward!

Wow. This article angers and saddens me to the max. I live in CA so I googled how is CA managing the influx of migrants. At least there are efforts being made at the county and state level to provide assistance for migrants. San Diego, for obvious reasons, has had to deal with the largest number of migrants. This comment from State senator Steve Padilla says a lot: Although the state has made millions of dollars available to support asylum seekers, “we need the federal government to enact a comprehensive solution; one that includes meaningful and lasting immigration reform and provides increased processing capacity, better coordination, and the necessary funding to continue and expand California’s humanitarian response."

If tRump wins in November, migrants will never get the kindness and humanity that they deserve.

Thanks for your comment. We are called to afflict the comfortable by raising awareness of the consequences of their actions. It is a perennial task to correct the misinformation being put out that perpetuates oppression of the weak and poor. Peace to you, thanks for caring.

"Kindness and Humanity" are words that more and more Texans will be googling for definitions since they're certainly not being taught them.

Graciewilde's avatar

I don't really ❤️ this but it does feel true (and , perhaps, not just Texans). How can this be changed? How can people be more tolerant and loving? I guess that's not a new question but I would hope humanity had evolved enough by now that it would be natural to look after each other rather than actively mistreat and shun each other.

Could the situation be the outcome of the worship of Gog and Magog, power and wealth, mistakenly pursued to fend off fear of the unknown and the other?

The irony, the paradox, is that the policies we abhor in the discussions above, are embraced by "Christian conservatives". Go figure...

Graciewilde's avatar

Exactly. How can anyone applaud the inhumane treatment of migrants and truly consider themselves a "Christian"?

💯! And ordering others to do nothing while watching a woman and two *children* drown is a crime, as is carrying out those orders. Were the soldiers threatened with death if they helped? It all reeks madly of Nuremberg. How can people do this? Is it a sociopath's convention down there?

Manuel A. Garcia's avatar

"Is it a sociopath's convention down there?" A good question, yet many, many Texans abhor and oppose Abbott's agenda. We must press on for human rights.

Kate Morgan Reade's avatar

I should have specified the people in charge of the border patrol. I have a brother and SIL in Cypress and they and their neighbors are actively working to re-elect President Biden. 💙

As with people in general, painting with a broad brush hits a considerable number of innocent people.

Pasting my comment here from restacking this exceptional callout of cruelty and sick thinking.

Governor Abbott, you do realize that if your approach to dealing with people’s struggles had been applied when your legs no longer held you up, it would have been straight to the glue factory for you. As the saying goes: “No foot—no horse.”

Manuel A. Garcia's avatar

You are on target. And it is said that when that tree fell on him and crippled him, he filed a lawsuit that made him rich, and then he went into public office and limited the amounts others can receive in tort claims.

There is a special place of their own miserable creation for such people. Think of all the constructive work he could be doing in his position by leading with intelligence and a desire for the common good.

I will tell you what I think. The same I think of tRump. If they were gone, gone. Gone. I would not ever even think of their name again. Subhumans.

Thanks for your comment, Verónica. We must resist. We must persist.

A pathetic state of arrogance, narcissism and greed has overtaken a critical mass of Americans. What's in it for me has overtaken - what can I do to help them - in ever widening circles. In that new and disgusting world, "zero sum gain" drives the priorities of millions of Americans in spite of the fact that there's little if any evidence to back it up.

Manuel A. Garcia's avatar

We will all pay for that "...pathetic state of arrogance, narcissism and greed...". Thanks for your comment Mark!
