I just want you to know Manuel, that i have deleted 95% of all Substack posts and other emails. This is one of the very few I have read. That quote is one of the only things that buttressed me at this time. Sending hugs.
"Yes, we are grieving, but take a deep breath and continue to work for the betterment of humanity, in love and not in hate, with courage and resolve."
You know, I panicked in 2016. I thought everything was over. We were going to be entirely broken by his presence in the WH. People got to work, people started to pay attention , the country did not entirely fall apart (and, in fact, some good things happened including the WH returning to the Dems in 2020).
I felt that panic on Wednesday but I am already gearing up. I am reading the sources that I think can give me the truth (goodbye , NYT, WaPo, hello Steady and Tangle) . I am paying attention to the watch dogs and imagining how I can help there. In short, I will move forward with that resolve and courage that you referenced. Thank you for your leadership.
i’m contemplating the concept of irretrievable brokenness. We might be there. Wondering if it isn’t time to work on a healthy secession. “Cascadia States of America.” Or maybe, like a participant in any good addiction recovery program, avoid rescuing the addict until they’ve hit bottom and choose life. #contemplating
Thanks for your comment, Karen, good points. I recently read that maybe a certain degree of "regionalization" makes sense.
These hyper states such as Texas encompass a variety of regional areas that differ in demographics, faiths, environmental circumstances and more.
The urban/suburban/rural areas have different interests. The powerful politicians represent an amalgam that may not truly recognize those interests.
Just in Texas there are the coastal, agricultural, oil extractive, urban, military, and other zones, and each reside within microclimatic areas. I think that we must look beyond the current disappointment and crisis and think in new ways. I have not thought this through, but your comment certainly inspired me to begin to conceive a different tomorrow. 🙏🏻
I’ll be contemplating right along with you. This is no similar time … history doesn’t actually answer to a society divided by such extremes. Perhaps Galileo knew what it was like to know the earth is round in a world who believed it was flat!!
Richárd Goodwin writer and political speech writer for JFK and RFk, late husband of award winning writer and historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, wrote a play about Galileo Galilei called " The Hinge of the World"it was first performed in 2003 in England at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre under the direction of Edward Hall (who then also served as director in 2009 of the U.S. run at the Huntington Theatre in Boston where it was re-titled the Two Men of Florence. That version starred starred Edward Herrmann as Pope Urban VIII and Jay O. Sanders as Galileo. It is definitely worth reading. A movie was supposedly in the works. I saw the play and it was electrifying.
Well said, Manuel. While being absolutely clear eyed about the danger to this country, the world and planet Earth, we have to dig deep to find an inner peace that will provide the energy and resolve to be that light shining in the darkness. There are so many examples of those who have gone before us like Nelson Mandela. I believe the seeds he and others planted still exist in this universe. We have to nourish them.

Hugs to you as well, Lorraine. These are times of mourning and we must help each other to rise and return to the service of others. 🙏🏻
I second that statement.
Thank you, Verónica.
Thank you - it was beautiful 💚💚💚💚
Thank you for your kindness.
And thank you for yours!! Please keep going!!!!
Amen.

I barely know the questions, Verónica. If I fail to speak my mind of what use will I be to my descendants? Thanks for your kindness.
Thanks for your compassionate comment, Donna. This, too, shall pass...
Shall it, Manuel? I am not so sure. I hope you are right. Please keep doing what you do so well. Tell us your truth
Sending you a warm hug, with gratitude.
Thank you Verónica. I hug you back. I was wondering where you were. I enjoy your stories and challenging questions. 🙏🏻
Thanks for your comment, Elizabeth. The redeeming value of suffering...
Are we meant to suffer? Where and when does joy come in.?
Verónica I would defer to sages. They posit that suffering is the result of resisting the painful life experiences. Life is a puzzle...
Thanks, Anthony. We are convalescing in grief, and this too shall pass.
